the actual experience of the swiftly changing shapes these birds make. But this has a good crack at capturing the spectacle in a frame. This shot came back a bit flat in colour in a labprint from Boots! (I used them to process all my colour film quite hapily for many years). It wasn't until Mark at 'First Light' did hand prints for me that the colour of the evening was recaptured. If you look at the 2002 calendar we used a small shot of it matched to the washed out Boots print. (One handprint also got sold in the original print style). It's another that made me realise I needed a better lens.. but again something about it holds in this take. Maybe the slightly softer lens is evocative of the period? It was our biggest selling print for many years. It appeared as a top of layout print inside the 2003 calendar and was so in demand we put it on the cover of the 2004 calendar!
